1. Proposed Fundraiser for Mandeville Diocese- Mary Danhauer and Ken Trowbridge: The idea of a fund raiser cruise on Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, February 1-8, 2009 was proposed by Mary Danhauer and Ken Trowbridge (Faith in Travel). The 7 day cruise would leave from Galveston, TX with the final port of call being Montego Bay, Jamaica. The day in Jamaica would be a mission day to Maggotty, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. Travel time by bus being a total of 4 hour. The missionaries would plan on taking items to be given to the people of Maggotty. Also, fund raisers would be planned during the cruise to raise money to be given to the Jamaican people. The money donated would be shared between Maggotty and the diocese of Mandeville. This type of trip would be a vacation and mission trip. This trip is thought to give individuals who were unable to take the week long immersion mission trip to have the opportunity to meet the Jamaican people and do a one day mission trip. Cost of the cruise estimate $810 plus airfare round trip from Nashville estimate $250. For each cabin booked on the cruise $125 will be donated to Jamaica by cruise line/travel agent. Need to make first deposit by July 1, 2008. The committee discussed sponsoring or supporting this as a private fund raiser. Dr. Ward motioned the committee would approve but not officially sponsor a Caribbean Cruise planned as a mission trip/ fund raiser to Jamaica via Faith in Travel for February 1-8, 2009. Sr. Marietta Wethington seconded the motion.
Mary told the committee she would be in Kentucky till April 30 and return to Jamaica till July 5. She will then leave her work in Jamaica and begin working at the Mcauley Clinic, Owensboro. We thanked Mary for her 3 years of work in Jamaica, saying she has been a witness and inspiration for us. We will pray for her and for someone to continue her work in the clinics of Jamaica. Mary and Ken then left the meeting.
2. Reports / Discussion: a) Presbyteral Convocation Follow Up on Priorities for Diocesan Effort. We discussed the need to have exact guidelines when sending aid. The list of needs should come from the Jamaican people. We need to know exactly what they need. Example: how many sewing machines and who will receive these sewing machines. The same with farm equipment, ect.. Fr. Peter of Jamaica may be able to assist with this list.
b) Ash Wednesday Collection: $90,000 was collected. This is top priority that should be continued. Kim Doss is going to contact Jeanette Ward and work on new posters for 2009 Ash Wednesday collection.
