Parish History
| Before 1906, Fr. Andrew Zoeller said Mass in an upper room of Miss Eleen Kellehur's store in Clarkson. In May 1906, Fr. Anthony Helling came to Grayson Springs and saw a need for a church in Clarkson. St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church was dedicated Christmas Day, 1906. Fr. Helling was pastor for over 30 years until his death in 1938. Fr. Charles DeNardi became pastor on April 20, 1939 and served until 1957. Fr. Pike Powell came in Sept. 1957 and served until July 1965. Fr. Richard Danhauer served as pastor from 1965 until July, 1969. Fr. William Borntraeger served from 1969 until Aug. 19, 1972. Fr. Charles DeNardi served again from 1972 until he retired in March, 1984. Fr. Art Snow served from March 1984 thru June 14, 1984. Fr. Tony Stevenson served from 1984 until June 7, 1987. Fr. Maury Riney served from 1987 to June 1989. The current pastor, Fr. Charles Fischer, has served since 1989. The new St. Elizabeth of Hungary church was built in Dec., 1991. |
