Bishop’s Scholastic Challenge at Brescia - June 23-28
OWENSBORO, KY —— Once again this summer, area high school students will be invited to participate in the Bishop’s Scholastic Challenge at Brescia University in Owensboro. Students who will be high school juniors or seniors this fall and who have a grade point average of 3.2 or higher will have the opportunity to spend the week of June 23-28 on the university's campus, experiencing college-level classes taught by Brescia faculty and exploring their faith through daily morning prayers and noon liturgies. The program is limited to 30 students.
The Bishop’s Scholastic Challenge, which honors Bishop John McRaith, is an annual program designed to give students a taste of college life and an opportunity to discern their spiritual role in life. Students selected will live on campus for one week (Sunday through Friday), attending academic classes in science, education, ministry, English, music and theology during the day and participating in athletic/cultural events during the evening.
Students wishing to participate in the Bishop’s Scholastic Challenge must be nominated by their parishes. The only cost is a $25 registration fee, which is paid by the parish or the student. For this summer only, each parish can send one or two students for only a $25 fee.
Interested students should contact their pastor or youth director for an application and nomination form. For more information, contact program director Sister Mary Henning, Associate Professor of Music at Brescia University, 270 / 686-4226
