Owensboro Catholic Schools join "Fit for Life" program
OWENSBORO, Ky. - On February 15, 2002, Owensboro Mercy Health System (OMHS) took one more step at the OMHS HealthPark in fulfilling its mission to heal the sick and improve the health of the community by partnering with area school systems with the new Fit for Life physical education model.
Fit for Life is an innovative physical education program which embraces a lifetime approach to health and wellness. Unlike typical physical education with a focus on team sports and athletics, Fit for Life emphasizes cardiovascular fitness and muscular strength.
Not only does Fit for Life teach the concepts of proper exercise but it also enhances self-esteem. Utilizing heart monitors to focus on a student’s personal improvement rather than comparing performance against other children is a core component of the program.
The Fit For Life model has been endorsed by The Centers for Disease Control and has received an incredible amount of positive media coverage in many publications including Time Magazine, USA Today, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and has also been highlighted on CNN.
