A Blessed Christmas and New Year to YOU, a faithful supporter of the people of our Diocese of Mandeville, Jamaica. Thank you for your continued support. I am sending you two timely readings for Christmas, 2001.
A Carol of Color
"I may not sleep in Bethlehem.
Your inns would turn me back -
Because," said
Balthazar, unsmiling,
"My skin is black."
"I may not eat in Bethlehem,
Your Inns would frown me down,
Because," said
Melchior, uncomplaining,
"My skin is brown."
"Alone I ride to Bethlehem,
Alone I there
alight,
Because," cried Gaspar, all unheeding,
My skin is white."
Not one, nor two, but three they came,
To kneel at Bethlehem,
And there a brown-faced Christ-child,
laughing,
Welcomed them.
A Jamaican Grandfather
A Jamaican grandfather was talking to his grandson about how he felt. He said, "I feel as if I have two wolves fighting in my heart. One wolf is the vengeful, angry, violent one. The other wolf is the loving, compassionate one." The grandson asked him, "Which wolf will win the fight, Grandpa?" The grandpa paused for a moment and said, "The one I feed."
Pray for our world!
