St. Martin Parish, Rome, starts Catholic singles' club

By Lisa Gardner

ROME, Ky. - A Singles’ Catholic Club originating from St. Martin’s Parish in Rome, Kentucky, recently had its first meeting with seventeen people in attendance.

The newly formed club is open to any single Catholics ages 19-40 who have never previously married. The purpose of the club is to provide support to adult single Catholics and to promote fellowship with other single adults who struggle and cope with similar issues on being Catholic and single.

Fr. Len Arcilesi is spiritual director of the group and Amy Fogle is coordinator. Both Fr. Len, and Ms. Fogle encourage Catholic singles who have never married to inquire about the club.

"I was surprised by the number of people we had at our first meeting," said Fr. Arcelisi. "And, also that the male-female ratio was the same. I assumed there would be more female participants than male. But there was not."

The first hour of each meeting will be spent on spiritual development. This will include prayers, scripture, devotional readings, and other inspirational matter. "The group will also explore the possibility of a religious life for each individual. Vocational life into the priesthood and other religious vocations will hopefully be considered at one time or the other for the group," said Fr. Arcelisi. Group service projects will also be a requirement for this group.

The latter half of the meeting will be one of entertainment and social development. Activities will include dining out, attending dances, plays, movies, and other types of fun. "At this point, the group is new, so our options are wide-open on what we can do," said Fr. Arcelisi.
